PLEON-MARBLEHEAD Junior Race Week Day #1 MONDAY July 21, 2008

Howdy from Bob Duff Monday evening July 21, 2008 2150 hours,

Starting at the top look again at Saturday's picture by Bob Vessot aboard ETO of Brad Marvin, Susie Schneider and me heading home after a good day on the MIDWAY line. Just below that is the same photo enhanced by Jim Ayer's (EYC) magic to remove shadows. Jim brings out details that were there all along but not seen. I am impressed! He does photo work as part of his custom wooden jigsaw business.

The harbor start cannon went off at 1200 hours releasing everyone from shore near the Pleon Yacht Club float. Tuesday and Wednesday this start will be at 1030 hours. The wonderful little solo OPTIMIST PRAMS headed over to either Rick Meyer's (EYC)/Don Miller's(BYC) green fleets at area "C" or the more experience OPTIs to Tom Tomkn's (CYC) area "B". Susie Schneider (EYC) with Peter Frisch (EYC) ran the area "A" line for 420s and LASERs.

I did flags for area "A"on ETO with Brad Marvin (EYC-timer), Andrea Dunn (EPYC), Allison Beckert(CYC) Lou Guirino (CPYC) and Coulter Beote as boat operator/gunner. We used course pattern "J" which is a trapezoid starting and ending in the middle of its long leg. Wind direction was 080 degrees around 13 knots and distance was not posted since the GPS was on the blink for Jim McCully (EYC) and Nick Burke (EYC) on the pin boat.
My timer log above shows more detail than you probably want about the races at area "A". Click on it (or the pictures) for an enlarged view. The first 420 Championship start was at 1329:00 hours. That is one and one-half hours after the harbor start gun. The confusion of checking in all these competitors will give you ulcers if you let it.
Area "A" got only one race for all fleets plus a second for the 420 Championship group. Lasers all started together with finishes reported here for specific sub categories : Full Rig, Radial and 4.7s . Weather threats caused an early departure for home except for the Championship 420s. We all got in before the rain showers. etc.
